I have a 2 year old gateway laptop. It suddenly froze and would not work. In fact, it would always remain frozen until shut down by the power button. I took it to geek squad for repair.
Geek squad said there were 24 viruses and malware in the computer, which were removed. They also said i would need hard drive replaced, but i refused to replace hard drive because i don’t have that much money.
The computer works fine now. My question is why mcafee could not prevent 24 viruses and malware? i have an active mcafee subscription and its frequently updated. Why should i pay mcafee if they provide such inferior service?
Now, am i supposed to install another antivirus or let mcafee be there? please tell me. If i’m to get another antivirus, which is the most powerful one.
I paid $200 to get viruses and malware removed. So i don’t mind paying for a new powerful antivirus. However, i am really shocked mcafee failed.

All anti-virus program miss things, if you got infected with malware that stopped mcafee from working then that’s how you got infected. Most computers I clean up from malware have anti-virus software installed. But the users use P2P file sharing programs like limewire. When they do that it’s only a matter of time intill they get infected. Or they install a anti-virus program and do nothing else for security, and fail to up date Java, adobe flash, or some other program. This leaves a security opening in your computer and allow malware to get past your anti-virus software. These people almost always blame there anti-virus software, when in fact it’s there fault for not helping their security software with common sense computer practices. If user spend 20 minutes learning about how computers get infected, and stopped doing dumb stuff, they would not have to pay big money to get their computers fixed or have to reinstall their OS. The best way to protect your computer is never allow malware to get on it. I set up many computers that way and the users don’t have to worry about what is the best anti-virus program. Any of the top ones do a good job, I use Norton Internet Security, and it does a great job. I’ve also beta tested 2 mcafee security programs, they also did a good job. If you want something that scores the highest in detection, try G Data Internet Security, it uses 2 anti-virus engines. Bitdefender and Avast. But if you don’t know how to protect your computer, the odds are you will have to go to the geek squad again.

All anti-virus products make you think your protected..that is why I along with other computer professionals always have back-ups installed with their AV products…I have Avast Pro edition and I back it up with Malwarebytes anti-malware and Super Anti-spyware…these are free products from CNet.com…downloads….their databases’ are much larger and its a single product only…its main focus is finding Adware/Malware and Spyware on your computer…McAfee by itself will not do the job…and neither will Norton or Kaspersky….and i don’t care what the anti-virus product says……that is a fact…….all lack the database required to remove the most common threats…..
