Hey,
My computer, a HP Pavillion 6645eo laptop with Vista has recently stopped booting after an abrupt loss of power or a failed shutdown. I cannot recall what happened. The problem appears to be a corrupt or missing .dll file, which I believe is the kdcom.dll file. When I start up the computer, it enters Windows Error Recovery and gives me the options of selecting:
Safe Mode
Safe Mode with Networking
Safe Mode with Command Prompt
Last Known Good Configuration (advanced)
Start Windows Normally
No matter which option I choose, I’m always immediately directed to the Windows Boot Manager which states that:
Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the case. To fix the problem:
1. Insert your Windows installation disc and restart your computer.
2. Choose your language settings, and then click "Next."
3. Click "Repair your computer."
If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance.
File: /Windows/system32/kdcom.dll
Status: 0xc0000001
Info: Windows failed to load because the kernel debugger DLL is missing, or corrupt.
At this stage I can either press "Enter" or "Exit". "Exit" brings me back to Windows Error Recovery, while "Enter" brings me to a new screen where I can either choose what operating system to start, initiate the "Windows Memory Diagnostic" or press F8 for advanced options. Now selecting operating system "Microsoft Windows Vista" brings me back to Windows Error Recovery, and although pressing F8, which brings me to the Advanced Boot Options screen, lets me choose from numerous options such as "Enable Boot Logging", "Debugging Mode", "Disable Driver Signature Enforcement", etc., none of them work. Each option always brings me back to the "Windows Boot Manager" which states that the kdcom.dll is either corrupt or missing.
Thus I have exhausted all options, and quite frankly have no idea what to do
If anybody would care to answer or comment, then I would like to know if there is anything to be done and if there is anyway to recover my computer and the files on it.
Thanks in advance!
