How do I get Firefox and AVG Antivirus to connect to the internet

I just installed AVG Antivirus and Mozilla Firefox on a Vista Home Premium machine. Neither one will connect to the Internet. It is running on a wireless network. Internet Explorer has no trouble connecting. The computer was Running Norton Antivirus, and it was connecting to the Internet normally, too. What do I need to do to get AVG and Firefox to connect?
It already has Service Pack 1. For some reason, neither program can connect. Firefox can't connect to any website, and AVG can't connect to the Internet to download updates. It looks like they are being blocked by something. Are there any settings I can change to allow them to connect?

      It is vista, Vista hasn’t worked out all its bugs yet. You might just have to wait till service pack 1 comes out for vista and try again.
