My computer came pre-installed with a trial version of Norton Internet Security. From the recommendation of a friend in the computer tech industry, we bought a subscription to AVG. When I try to remove Norton from the Add or Remove Programs, it won't go away, but it does not appear on my Start Menu, Desktop, or anywhere else. But I know it is installed because every time I turn my computer on, a window pops up saying Norton is corrupt because it is missing a file. How do i get rid of it?

Hi,
Symantec has a free removal tool that completely removes Norton.
You can go here: http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039 and select the product your computer came with and download the appropriate tool that way.

Restart your computer and if that doesn't work boot in safe mode via F8 and try again.
