Ok, I was just surfing the net, and then my computer suddenly restarted. At first I thought it was nothing, and I let it restart, but it kept doing it over and over, till I had enough. I had SuperAnti Spyware remover, and it kept bugging me to download the newest version, but I had always denied it. Now, my icons where it shows the time, are all gone except the DSL icon, and the volume control, and the annoying stop sign with an X in it. It keeps popping up, and saying,"Your Computers infected with spyware! Click here to protect your computer from spyware!" everytime I open the Internet, it changes my homepage from Yahoo! to Google, and I can't get rid of this virus or spyware! I've tried scanning it with Anti Virus, and it says its healed it, I've scanned it with Anti Spyware, and now it won't open again. This annoying pop up keeps opening every 2 minutes, and it's really annoying. And it shows what im typing in the search box. HELP how do i get rid of it? I dont wanna lose my info!
I've downloaded SpyBot, and scanned my computer. It found a lot of viruses and spyware, however….The annoying circle with the X hasn't left. It is still there, and keeps popping up with Your computer is infected. All my firewalls are on. I can't get rid of it, and my icons on the tool bar still gone. Now, I really love my computer, and I am NOT smart enough to reformat my computer. I am NOT downloading any spyware preventions, I like Spybot, and I have AVG free. I just want to get rid of this one annoying circle X thing, and have my computer back to normal.

I've never heard of this SuperAnti Spyware remover. Try these 2, they are well known and effective:

Also, after you're done with these, I would try Kaspersky antivirus. They have free trials and if it finds something that your AV isn't finding now and helps you get rid of it, consider buying it.

there are a few things u can do…
1…Try calling ur service provider and ask them how to block what is happening to ur computer.
2…Check ur "Settings" and make certain everything is in order. Hit onto "pop up's…" listed in alphabetical order.
3…Go to ur Control Panel and check to see if ur firewall is on, enabled.
4…Try using ur …calender. Go back to a date and time when it wasn't infected with spyware.
There r many options. But, I would start with calling ur service provider. They may be able to direct u. Tech support….

Well, its no time to explain you the technical aspects of spyware.
But still you should know how to handle these.
They come primarily by downloading cracks, serials of various softwares, attending porn sites , and clicking on banners.
Now avoid these in future. And yes antivirus are bloddy useless when dealing with these
Theres a free software called SpywareBlaster. Download and update it with latest definitions. Run a scan.
Now check in the results that if the infection is in your windows folder like c:/windows or c:/windows/system32. If it is there this means you'll have to format your hard drive because if you delete those windows files your system wont run anymore.
If the infection is in other subsdiary partitions like d:/ or e:/ where stuff like documents music etc is there…..
Go ahead with the software and run the cleaner.
After you've done with this………theres a software called tune up utilities 2008………that will be for correcting your windows registry.
Any more help? reply on

I've had Superantispyware installed for quite some time and it has *never* bothered me. Are you sure that you had SUPERAntiSpyware? You should really reinstall it, you won't find a better free program.
As you are installing Super, configure it to protect your home page from future hijackings. Then run a full system scan in safe mode.

If you are really adamant against Super, try Malwarebytes' Antimalware. It may ask if you want to buy the paid version, but just run the free version:

Edit: SpywareBlaster as advised above is a good *preventative* measure… But it doesn't scan. The answerer must have something else in mind

Okay follow the instructions closely: go to OneCare.com. On the left, click safety scanner. Download the tools it needs to run the scanner and start the scan and go find something to do. It is a site by Microsoft with a free online system scan that scans for all viruses, and checks your registry and everything, then provides you with a list of everything it found wrong with your computer and tells you whether it cleaned the problems or was unable to. Email me and let me know if you have any problems, okay? I've gotten rid of like twenty viruses on my computer now. some hiding in the files that make the computer work! so Like I said, if you have a problem, email me. If it did not clean any, email me. Okay? Thanks! Oh, and by the way, there is absolutely no charge for it either.

Looks like it is a DNS changer, so in the worst case you may end up losing your Internet connection (I had). I had Protector Plus 2008 installed - and it never detected the nasty thingy. Luckily I could delete the keys from the Windows registry to prevent the spyware modules from loading upon restart…
If you have a U3 flashdrive with anti-spyware installed, run it. Or find someone with such drive. Alternatively, try online scanners, either TrendMicro Housecall or BitDefender, they both remove spyware.
