I'm an official Vista quitter (at least I hope to be)! I got a new computer with pre-installed Vista and I want to format my hard drive and install XP (I own the full & legal software for XP). Apparently I'm not as bright as I thought because I've tried everything I can think of and I'm still stuck with Vista! I've tried making a DOS boot disk, using DBAN and runing FDISK (though admittedly I'm not sure I did that one right) to format this drive and nothing has worked! Any suggestions? Tips? Anyone actually done this succesfully? Apparently I need very dumbed-down step-by-step instructions that leave nothing to chance. Anyone know of a good website or resource where such instructions exist? Thanks!

WHOA!!! Before you just remove Vista from your machine, be sure to check that XP drivers actually exist for that model!!
I have come across machines that come with Vista, and there are no XP drivers for it. So before you do something irreversible, just make 100% sure
You should be able to boot straight off your XP cd - just check the BIOS settings of the machine, and set it to boot from CD first.
Hope this helps!

1) back up ALL your data to a external harddrive
2) Install XP, and by install, I mean wipe your computer clean.
3) Make a good bye party to Vista!
4) Enjoy working like a normal person without your computer freezing and use almost all programs, cause guess what - most programs are compatible with XP.

why would you want to get rid of vista?

in DOS you had to type in FDISK c: (or whatever your drive letter is) then put in your xp cd. Or in run you can type in format c:
Another way is to just put in your xp cd and install. It should format then install xp all in one!
