Ever since receiving my note book back from acer (replaced motherboard) I can not install java. I have dl'd both the auto and manual install programs with no success.
Each time I run the programs they start up and immediately shut down?
Thanks! Did as you instructed, still running into same problem, ran the check on jvm and is saying it is not working.
Also tried downloading java from the fresh link you provived with the same results.

This issue may occur if one of the following factors is true:
1. Corrupted Windows components
2. Third party programs conflict with the Windows Vista system
3. Viruses and spyware
Based on this situation, I suggest we perform the steps below:
Step 1: Reload Internet Explorer (IE) settings:
1. Click "Start" and click "Run", input "INETCPL.CPL" (without quotation marks) and press Enter.
2. Click "Delete Files" and click "OK" when prompted to confirm.
3. Click "Settings", and then click "View Files". Delete all files in this folder.
4. Switch to the "Advanced" tab, click the "Restore Defaults" button and click "OK" to quit.
Step 2: Test your Java Virtual Machine (JVM)

This page tests to see if the JVM is working on your computer. If you can see the dancing Duke logo image animated in the applet above, then the JVM is functioning correctly.
Is the JVM functioning correctly?

Try completely uninstalling all currently installed versions of Java, and then install the one version you want.
