I have a Compaq laptop with Windows Vista Home Premium w/SP1.
I have viruses on it and was wondering how to reformat. Don’t tell me ways to remove viruses I want to reformat. Will it work with a set of 3 recovery disks on 3 DVD’s? I don’t have a store-bought copy. I need instructions. I want to wipe my hard drive completely (no windows.old folder). Can I do this? I was also wondering if this tutorial would work in my case because I have recovery disks.
Tutorial:

Part 2: http://www.cyberwalker.com/article/726
Also will the stuff on my laptop work (microphone, my external mouse, flash drives, etc.)?

Generally speaking, if the recovery disc making utility was used to make the restore set it should work. During the recovery, the software will usually include a way to erase the hard drive or do it automatically for you. (After asking if you want to restore the computer.)
Simply boot the first disc, it should ask you if you want to restore, select yes or OK. It should erase the computer and copy the first disc, than second than third. It will prompt when to insert disc 2, and 3.
After the third disc is done being copied to the computer, it usually will prompt to remove the disc and reboot the computer.

Hi There
No need to reformat even if you have a virus. Boot form the CD and it will ask you if you want to re-install. It will ask you to cerate a new directory or overwrite the existing window.
Over-write the existing directory. At least, if you have and important data, it will not touch it. Otherwise, do a fresh install.
