Ok, I tried downloading internet explorer 6 onto my windows 2000 pro..and an error message pops up saying it needs to be shut down and an error log is being created. Okay so I restarted the computer and this time it wont start up completely and the same message pops up except at the end it says that I have to restart the program. I tried figuring this out on my own, but it just not that easy when the computer doesn’t fully start up…Have any ideas on this?

Try opening it in Safe Mode. That would let you do it safely without any error logs.
