how do I restore a backup with norton ghost?

I’ve got norton ghost 14. I’ve got a copy of my system backed up to a hard drive. If my operating system is corrupted, how do I boot into ghost/dos/whatever temporary OS I need, so that I can use ghost to restore from my second hard drive. Do I just put in the norton ghost cd when the computer is booting up, and then ghost will start up, and give me the option to restore from my external hard drive? is that how it works?
