How do I run the Sims 2 without freezing when I have Norton and Road Runner???

August 6th, 2008 · 2 Comments

I just got the game the Sims 2 Deluxe package and it keeps crashing whenever I begin to play it. I was told if I turn off my anti virus protection that it will run better but I have road runner and then my computer will be free for the taking! What can I do to solve this problem so I can play my game without freezing?! Should I unplug road runner??? is there anyother way??

Yes, turn off the Internet (unplug it, press the button, whatever) and disable your virus scanner.

However, I don’t think that’s the problem; I play with my Internet on and my virus scanner running. It could be a RAM issue, and you may not have enough. Do you fit the system specs? Make sure you have enough. You may want to try lowering the graphics in the game as well.

I had fits with Norton/Symantec and The Sims 2 until I excluded the game files from scanning.

Include the installation and saved file locations:

      C:\program files\EA Games\The Sims 2\*

      My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\*

This way the rest of your computer is still protected, and you don’t have to kill your internet connection if your PC is doing stuff in the background while you play (receive e-mail, IMs, downloading, etc).
