Have you tried opening the security center up and changing the update times , or setting it for manual ?

I wouldn’t turn it off, otherwise you wont get your updates. I use avg and it updates super quick in the background and doesn’t slow down my computer. I would suggest that once mcafee runs out, that you switch to AVG.

Select the option to disable Automatic updation of McAfee.

      1. Right click on the red ‘M’ cion near the system clock.
      2. Click on "Updates".
      3. Click on "Configures".
      4. Choose the option of "Disable Automatic Updating and let me manually check for the Updates".

After disabling the automatic updates, you need to check for updates manually. You can update your product in future by:

      1. right click on "M" icon near to the system clock.
      2. Click on Updates.
      3. Click on Check Now.
      4. restart your computer after updating the McAfee product(s).
