“Please stay off the internet until your parents can open Trend Micro Internet Security and fix the Parental Controls for you. After that, you can restart the computer and use the internet.”
This stupid message appears every time I log on, and it’s quite annoying. I have the parental controls turned off, and I have no reason to have them on.
How do I stop this bloody message from popping up?

Can’t figure it out either! It’s really annoying!

Since everyone is getting this at the same time (me included) im guessing it is a problem with a recent update?
It may be a conflict with Vista, or another program running on your system.
I suggest checking for updates regularly as it may be fixed next time you update Trend.

I don’t think this has anything to do with Vista. I’m on XP and I’m getting problems with it too. Also, it kinds of disturbs me that I do not and never have had Trend on this computer, and it keeps telling me my subscription has expired. Make it go away…

I am having the same issue. I wrote about it over at Video Blogging Tips, but still haven’t figured out how to fix it.

Hi, I have contacted technical support about this, and they tell me the only way to fix it is to reinstall Trend…
They tell me “This is somewhat because of the user interface.”
And “After we let the Trend Micro Proxy’s start type set to manual and same thing happened, we suggest to uninstall and reinstall the program.”
This is after telling me to set the “trend micro proxy service” in services to the “Manual” startup type - I suggest you try this before a reinstall, but it was unsuccessful for me.
I was then given instructions on uninstalling trend (1: Uninstall 2: Delete from program Files 3: Delete from registry…)
Good luck, all. I have a re-installation to do… -.-

I tried both two of those solutions and none worked!! I emailed their customer support and told them none of the 2 solutions they previously sent me worked and if they didn’t find a solution I’d be uninstalling the software!!! SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP!!! IT’S GONNA BE BEST FOR EVERYONE!!! Oh, and by the way, I don’t think it is with the latest update as it only happend on 1 out of 3 PCs I have. I have 4, but 3 have PC-Cillin. Is Everyone running the 2009 version??

I have the same problem. I have contacted technical support about this, and tried all the solutions they sugested , only reinstalling Trend fixed the problem. But recently the warning comes back. Any new solutions other than reinstall it again?

I have the problem on a vista pc, but not on xp. I have already done the reinstall once b4, do to another problem. I guess I will be putting up with this crappy program and crappy support until the subscription is over-then never again! Best buy must get a bunch of kick-back for recommending/selling this garbage.

I’ve been getting the same message for days. If “reinstall” is the only option, I’ll be installing something else.

Well it seems I am like everyone else here with the same problem that Trend Micro haven’t got their act together with finding a fix for removing the parental controls when its only one person useing a computer. Going by the comments I have found on this site and others given the fact that no one seems to know how to fix this problem I am very reluctant to use this product again. I have not had this much trouble using other products.

if i uninstall then reinstall do i have to download all of the updates again? i don’t have a lot of internet allowance…

I’m getting this too. I have a notebook running Vista. If I let the notebook sleep for a while sometimes it will turn itself off and when I restart it tells me it was improperly shut down. When it finally starts back up, I get the message. Then I have to uninstall and reinstall Trend. This is a nearly weekly thing. I wonder if Trend is also causing the computer to shut down, or if that’s something different?
I have about had it with Trend.

Same problem here, but have been very satisfied with the level of protection and customer support provided by TM so will be a bit more patient as they work on a fix for this. It’s not a huge deal to close one window in the meantime.

i actually get SEVERAL windows telling me that, even after my boyfriend goes on the internet on his desktop…this is ridiculous!!! i’m going to try the solutions someone posted on here.

We are aware that our programers have no idea of what there doing. We receved this message in our offices and are still wating for our parents to fix the problem.

I am getting very angry at spending a crap load of money on a program with problems. I am going to raise hell with these people!
26 FTW //
this is bull.. you would think by paying for an anti-virus you wouldnt have problems. i mean really ive had better success with FREE anti-virus programs. its kinda sad when you install trend and end up wishing you HADENT uninsalled NORTIN..
For anyone fed up with Trend.. I hear AVG has a nice anti-virus. and im pretty sure they have a nice free trial period.. SO NO PAYING FOR A CRAPPY PROGRAM.

I have the same problem. Only it is alos preventing me from accessing the internet and a number of programms…including Trend itself, which means that I can’t do anything but restart the computer several times untill it for some reason lets me access the internet again!!! This is driving me crazy especially since the computer is less than 1 month old. Trend fix the problem and send an update.

Mr. Trend Micro Rep, you are one funny person.
Recently I started having the same problem on my Vista machine that has been running TM for over a year. There are six of us with accounts, mine being the only administrator. Everyone else gets a couple of pop-ups. I, on the other hand, not only get them myself but I also get copies of everyone else’s as well. So it’s quite annoying and I hope the parents of the TM programmers figure out a solution very soon for all of us.

Got the same 2 windows. They show up whenever I restart from my screen saver. Just started with the latest updates for me. Hadn’t seen it before.
Yes, this is extremely annoying. I really don’t want to bother with Uninstalling and Reinstalling and fiddling with the registry and etc. Especially since I see instances where this is only a temporary fix…
Please fix this in an update.
30 croc //
I’ve been getting the same popup every logon, which has only started recently. TM has a problem, but they’re retarded

I am another one with this problem on windows vista and its getting really annoying!!!

What a relief to know that I am not alone. I have a problem that my father is dead and my mother in non compus in a nursing home so neither of them are able to assist me inspite of TMs directive.

Received the following from Trend yesterday which resolved the issue at least temporarily. Sounds like they have a bug and are working on an update to permanently resolve it but these steps are a lot easier then having to reinstall.
Kindly refer to the information below to fix the issue.
1. Close all open programs on your computer. If the Trend Micro Internet Security main console is open, close it.
2. Click Start > Programs or All Programs > Trend Micro Internet Security > Trend Micro Support Diagnostic Toolkit.
Note: If you are using Windows Vista, right-click on Trend Micro Support Diagnostic Toolkit then select Run as administrator. If a User Account Control window appears, click Continue, or enter the password for an administrator account then click OK.
3. Click the [A] General tab.
4. Under “Start and Quit”, click 2. Quit All Components.
5. Close all windows
6. Open My Computer and click the C: drive
7. Double click the Program Files folder to open.
8. Double click the Trend Micro folder.
9. Look and double click the Internet Security folder to open
10. Open the Profile folder.
11. Check if there files that has an extention name of “.USR” and “.PEX”, if there are, please delete them.
Examples format of the file (abcd can be any letters and/or numbers):
abcd.usr
abcd.pex
12. Restart you computer.
13. Open your Diagnostic Toolkit (Step #2).
14. Click the [A] General tab.
15. Under “Start and Quit”, click 1. Start All Components
16. Restart you computer.

I’m getting the same problem after letting it sleep for too long and there was some error. Also it won’t allow updates to download, so I may reinstall it, but I won’t let it sleep for too long.

worked for me thanks GC
