I have a 60 day free trial version of Norton 2006. Lately the product has been freezing when I try to open it, and then saying there are pieces missing, and I need to reinstall the product. I tried to remove it in the add/remove programs and it wouldn't let me. Then I tried downloading the Norton removal tool and it won't connect me to the updated download, it says I can't establish a connection (Even though my internet is working just fine.) I finally found I guess an older version of Norton removal from a different website, downloaded it, and went to run it and it said it was expired and I needed to update it. I even did the whole checking my date & time thing like it said, and even going in the register and deleting some "ltm" (or something like that) and restarting the computer, and it still isn't working. How on earth do I get rid of this forsaken product?

Be very careful how you remove it. It is really hard to take out. And if you don't know what you are doing you can mess up your computer.

try downloading the Norton Removal Tool from another site like download.com or geeksquad.com — you probably cannot download the correct version because Norton messes up your internet connectivity.
After you remove Norton, either install Norton 2009, Kaspersky Antivirus or Webroot Spysweeper/Antivirus. Don't use Norton 2006.

Thats why I never download trials. It could be a trojan version.
Go download SpyBot Search And Destroy. It's a free program that takes off any spyware, adware, malware, cookies, trojans, viruses. Stuff like that. I sometimes find that after running this, I can uninstall things from Add Or Remove Programs that I normally cannot.

I don't think it's a problem with the software. The software should be easily removable with the add or remove programs tool. It could be a slow hard drive or processing speed. If your computer is more than 5 years old then it may be a problem with your hard drive and you should have it diagnosed by a professional. If your computer is newer than 5 years, then run the DX Diagnostic tool (type 'dxdiag' after you go to 'run' in the start menu). Check your hardware specs. It may be because you have a shortage of RAM (256MB RAM is a problem if you're running XP, less than 1GB RAM is a problem if you are running vista).

This is why you get the full versions of Avast and AVG for free, and not worry about Norton's speed issues or it's price, and keeping your computer protected.

To completely uninstall Norton you have to go to Symantic's site and download 'Norton Uninstall'. It's the only way to completely uninstall it unless you're more than a novice with computers.

That's the simplest way to remove it. It's just one file not 3 or however many.

I had the same problem . Go back to your add remove programs there are two programs listed under Norton Semantic you have to delete one folder before it will let you delete the other one , It took me awhile to figure it out but i finally got rid of it. Just make sure you have another Security program to load onto your system , make sure there are no other security programs on your system that are running , close any other running programs. Norton Sucks !!!!!
