I need to erase icons from my desktop, but don’t know how to do it because I am not familiar with Mac computers. I also would like to know how to uninstall or erase programs and files that I don’t need. Thanks.

To erase icons from your desktop, just drag the icons to the trash can on the dock menu.

To uninstall any programs on your Mac, simply drag its icon from the finder window to the Trashcan icon on the right side of the Dock (taskbar). With many programs you can also just move them to any directory/folder and still be able to click and run them fine. Note, don’t do this with the iLife applications (iPhoto, iTunes etc). Those ones are pretty fussy about where they are located for some reason and may have trouble finding their photo or music files if you move them.
If you want to just remove icons from the dock, without unistalling the application, just drag the icon off the dock onto a vacant area of the desk top. The icon should vanish with a puff of smoke, but leave the program intact wherever it is installed (dock icons are just like windows shortcuts, when you delete them only the shortcut is deleted not the program).
