How do I uninstall Trend Micro USB Security on my Transcend Flash Drive?

October 21st, 2009 · 17 Comments

I just bought a JetFlash from Transcend that has a Trend Micro USB Security pre-installed. I thought the anti-virus would be some help to keep my wares virus-free but it’s causing me a headache! I use 2 computers: one PC and one Mac. Though I can use the flash drive on my PC, I found out today that I can’t use it on my Mac. Such a drag.

I guess there’s some sort of partition on the drive (Every time I plug it in, my PC registers 2 removable hardwares.). Don’t know how to delete it though. Can’t find an uninstall.exe on the drive either. Thanks for the help!

I don’t knowledge about Mac OS, but in Windows OS may be you can disable autorun/autoplay first, with setting up your “gpedit.msc” from Start>>Run>>gpedit.msc >>>User-Configuration>>System>>> >choice enable in radio button. Thats all!! (refresh or restart to take effect) Now when You insert CD/DVD in your drive or your Flash disk windows go in silence mode no pop up “open with” appear it mean you protect your PC from virus too (remember virus created autorun in flash disk to execute their script) But you still can browse your file in explore. May be now you can delete your Trend_micro_usb folder. Hope is works..

How to remove transcend usb security from JetFlash V15
At fast I run this tools: http://knowledgedocs.misgl.com/Facets/Trend/Tools/PCCTool15EN.exe
[B] Uninstall, select Trend Micro Antivirus, then pres button 4.Uninstall, wait for finishing.
Still visible Trend Security USB CD.
      From FLASH manufacturer web I download “OnlineRecovery_V15″ (i have JetFlash V15) http://www.transcendusa.com/Support/DLCenter/index.asp?axn=SRH2&ModNo=245&ItemID=TS16GJFV15&Controller=#5
Run tools, he asked to re-connect the flash. I did it, but not finished the reconstruction procedure, turn off the program, when asked to choose the capacity of my USB flash drive. I opened my computer and I do not see trend UBS Security CD-drive. Go tu disk management (on “My Computer” right mouse button, select manager, go to disk management). I see USB device 1,86GB and unlocated space ~22MB. I can’t join (extend) this space to my usb flash drive. OK. I boot my system in Ubuntu Linux 9,10 (You can run a different distribution or LiveCD). Run disk tools DISK UTILITY (System-Administration-Disk utility) and I see JetFlash V15 with two partitions 1.86 G and 22MB. I deleted both partitions and created one partition (if you will not delete the partition, unmount partition from desktop and then delete) . Reboot system to Windows and we see a partition without any trend security CD-drive. You can see in disk managent (on “My Computer” right mouse button, select manager, go to disk management) USB flash one partition. You can also reformat the USB flash drive on Windows.

      P.s. Sorry for the mistakes.

I make guide with image “how to delete Trend Micro USB Security”. Guide you can get here: http://www.file.lt/files/5705/TrendMicroUsbSecurityEN.pdf

Thanks Gintaras, this works fine. For everyone else with one of these terribly annoying devices, here’s a clearer explanation of what to do.

      1. Download the following files:
      http://knowledgedocs.misgl.com/Facets/Trend/Tools/PCCTool15EN.exe
      http://www.transcendusa.com/Support/DLCenter/Software/OnlineRecoveryV15.zip
      http://www.freeisoburner.com/FreeISOBurner.exe
      http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/damnsmall/current/current.iso

      2. Run the first program. On the second tab, click uninstall. This will blow away any Trend product on your PC. No big loss…

      3. Run the second program. Do what it says. Don’t worry if it says it failed - it didn’t.

      4. Use the third program to burn the fourth download onto a blank CD.

      5. Reboot your computer and boot off the CD.

      6. Click the “Term” button when it’s loaded

      7. Type “sudo su -”

      8. Type “fdisk -l”. Look for your USB stick’s address, should be something like /dev/sdb. You’ll know which one’s the USB stick because it’ll only be 8GB big, or whatever yours is.

      9. Type “cfdisk -z /dev/sdb” replacing the latter with your stick’s address. DO NOT get this wrong or you’ll wipe your main hard drive! You have been warned.

      10. Create a new partition, max size, set the type to 07 and then hit Write. You have to type “yes”.

      11. Reboot into Windows, format the drive and voila!

Hope this helps! Greets from Cambodia.

      Cheers

Hi, thanks everyone for your data on this, I finally solved it!

I discovered though that it is event simpler than the above, and all you really need to remove the virtual CD from your flash drive is the OnlineRecovery tool (http://www.transcendusa.com/Support/DLCenter/Software/OnlineRecoveryV15.zip) and another tool that comes with windows vista or 7.

Here’s how I did it very simply:

      1. First insert your flash drive, then run the OnlineRecovery.exe file from the above download. Pull it out when it tells you too, then re-insert it. When it prompts for the size of the drive just click exit. This effectively removes the virtual CD drive already right here.

      2. to gain back the extra 23 MB or whatever from where the cd used to be, follow these steps in Windows vista or 7:

      a. open up a command console, select run on the start menu and type “cmd”.

      b. type “diskpart”

      c. type “list disk” and note which one is your flash drive (by the size).

      d. type “select disk 2″ or whatever the number was above

      e. type “clean” to wipe everything out on the disk.

      f. type “create partition primary”

      g. type “select partition 1″

      h. type “format fs=fat32 quick”

There you go! all done and you didn’t have to leave windows.

Damien, after performing your step e the cmd says that disk is write proctected so it is impossible to continue then.

Trying to follow the first Liam’s sheme.

Fuuuuu**k! I tried to follov actions from the 1st instruction. After booting from CD both mac and PC say the same thing: “Can’t find KNOPPIX filesystem, sorry. Dropping you to a (very limited) shell. Press reset button to quit”.

      Any ideas?

      P. S. Never before have I met such a fucking brand new piece of shit :)

I wish to notice that before one can perform operation on disk repartitioning, it is necessary to “unblock” a disk (start of the program from CD-section of flash drive in Windows).
That remove read-only label from flash drive!
Further it is possible to use Liam’s or Damien’s methods!
