i’m trying to delete the McAfee anti-virus program that came with my computer, so i can intall AVG instead. but it looks like there’s some kind of security feature in McAfee that prevents it from being deleted, except maybe in the conventional feature (i.e. going to programs and features in ‘Control Panel’ and selecting McAfee and hitting uninstall). AVG will not let me install it until i’ve removed McAfee from computer (every time i try to install it, i keep getting a message saying there’s another antivirus/security program on my computer, and AVG wont run properly until i uninstall the other).
here’s a little more info: i’ve ALREADY gone to Programs and Features in the Control Panel, and was going to uninstall McAfee completely, but then it gave me the option of uninstalling various features of McAfee, instead of the usual complete uninstall, and i (like an idiot) chose to uninstall only the anti-virus part of McAfee, instead of the whole thing, thinking that AVG might let me install it then, leaving the rest of the McAfee Security Center intact, and still on my computer, but i was wrong! i still get the same message when trying to install AVG, so obviously i’ve got to uninstall the whole thing!
But unfortunately, when i went to uninstall the rest of McAfee in Control Panel, i was unable to, because when i hit ‘uninstall, change’ the uninstall dialog popped up as usual, but almost the whole dialog box was BLANK!!!! i think it may be due to the fact that only uninstalled part of the program, instead of the whole thing, and that some how screwed up the uninstall thing!
I’ve got Windows Vista, by the way, since the procedure is probably different in other operating systems, to uninstall programs.
Hope u techie guys have a solution!

To get rid of Mcafee, you will need to get the Mcafee removal tool from there site. here is the link.
