How do you enable task manager on your pc when Spyware has it hostage?

May 20th, 2008 · 4 Comments

I got on some website tonight that put something weird on my pc. The screen showed blue and warned me that I needed to check my pc with spyware or antivirus stuff. I have both of those on my machine. This thing on my machine wont let me open task manager. Whenever I ctrl alt del it, it says the administrator has disabled task manager. My IE keeps going to this spyware website for $49.00. What can I do? I've gotten the background off and I'm running my spyware and antivirus stuff. But how do I enable task manager again?

open run type gpedit.msc, scroll to user something, administrative something , control alt del options. enable task manager, change the state to disable, apply it, then change it to not configured, apply it.

here are some steps i would suggest you to follow, so that the problem is completely removed
      - download / install / run a freeware called CCleaner
(run two menus - cleaner and issues)
      - download / install /update and run a freeware antispyware called spybot s&d
      - download and run a small free tool called smitFraudFix tool
(this tool is the one that will actually get rid of the fake antispyware popping in your browser)
      - to enable task manager you will need to download and run a small free tool called "remove restrictions tool" or RRT

      use this 1st method

      • Click Start
      • Click Run
      • Enter gpedit.msc in the Open box and click OK
      • In the Group Policy settings window
      o Select User Configuration
      o Select Administrative Templates
      o Select System
      o Select Ctrl+Alt+Delete options
      o Select Remove Task Manager
o Double-click the Remove Task Manager option

2nd method if 1st method is not working

Click Start -> Run. Type in "regedit" (no quotes) and hit Enter.

      Search for HKEY_CURRENT_USER -> Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Policies \ System.

Look for: DisableTaskMgr. Click on REG_DWORD. Value: 1=Enable this key (disables TaskManager); Value: 0=Disable (actually enables TaskManager)

      Close RegEdit

      Reboot your machine.

DOWNLOAD MANY SOFTWARE WHICH ENABLES TASK MANAGER FROM THIS LINK

First use combofix.exe to get rid of most harmful viruses:

      http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

AND then use Spybot 1.5.2 to get of the spyware:

THEN uninstall all other virus and spware programs like Norton and McAfee! THEN download and install free "AVG 8.0.1":
