I got XP Antivirus on my computer and I'm having trouble removing it. Do you know a program that can help me get rid of it without playing any kind of fee? I tried that SpyHunter thing, but I found out that to use it, I have to buy it.
XP Antivirus is so annoying. It's supposed to be fraud. They tell you that you have like over 50 viruses when you actually don't just so you can pay them to remove the fake viruses.
Please help!

I haven't used it myself, so I can't guarantee it. But if it doesn't work, back up your data and reformat

Have you tried the uninstall from the Add/remove programs and a system restore?

The suggestion given by the first answerer should work. Follow it up with Superantispyware to remove any other malware that may have gotten in along with XP Antivirus.

Found this information at Bleepingcomputer.com which is an excellent resource for information on phoney anti-spyware programs. Read over what they have to say, and try following their instructions and hopefully your problem will be resolved. Good Luck and I mean that sincerely. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic111715.html

After numerous failed attempts with all suggested methods this worked for me. Scan showed xp antivirus was in c:/documents and settings——name was 880136_z exe.
I went to start menu, click on search, enterd 880136 in phrase box. Look in: Local hard drives. Type of file: all files and folders. Scan found the program. When I clicked on it, it was xp antivirus, with a prompt to install. Clicked on cancel, then I right clicked on it, deleted, then emptied trash. Ran a new virus scan. IT IS GONE!

I am totally computer illiterate and I’m trying the suggestion from 6, nothing came up searching “880136″ but I found a bunch of stuff searching “xp” so I’m looking through all the search results for xp anti-virus files but when I try to delete most of them a thing pops up that says “Cannot delete file - Cannot read from the source file or disk” or another thing says “Cannot delete xpa.exe: Access is denied. Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use.” All the while I am constantly getting the pop ups about the viruses it finding! Please help!

I THINK I DID IT! I the reason I could not delete those files is because the stupid thing was constantly running on my computer. I remembered something I read on another site http://www.2-spyware.com/news/post203.html that instructs you to “end processes”. I followed those instructions then hurried back to the “xp” search results and deleted those other files before they started running again and a moment later the stupid XP icon disappeared! Yay! I sure hope it doesn’t come back. Oh, there was another helpful site that lists tons of file names & dll’s etc.???, that xp anti-spyware uses http://www.xp-antivirus-removal.com.removal-instructions.com/removeXPAntivirus.html I’m sure they want you to buy their software but there’s plenty to read about without buying. THANK YOU “s”!!!!

I got that XP Antivirus today and couldn’t get rid of it. Finally I got pissed off and did a system restore! Whoever made this virus needs their face beat in. System Restore worked for me. You guys should try that instead of paying for all these bs antivirus programs to help get rid of it bc most of them wont work.
