how to format windows xp?

my frnd gave me two cds of winxp.nd i want to format my pc.i have two drives local disk c nd d.i want to format local disk c only not d.bcoz i dont want to lose data from local disk d.i dont know ne thing abt formatting pc.plz tell the whole process of formatting pc.in very simple manner.tell me every simple step.nd also every simple command tht i have to give to my pc while formatting it………very thanx to u!
i only want to format local disk c.not d.as my frnds do at their pc.they format their pc without losing ne data from local disk d.in tht case wat should i do?now i know how to format bcoz of u guys,thanx but the one thing tht i want to know is how to format it without losing ne data from local disk d.!

      1.Start your computer from the Windows XP CD. To do this, insert the Windows XP CD into your CD drive or DVD drive, and then restart your computer.
      2.When you see the "Press any key to boot from CD" message, press any key to start the computer from the Windows XP CD.
      3.At the Welcome to Setup screen, press ENTER to start Windows XP Setup.
      4.Read the Microsoft Software License Terms, and then press F8.
      5.Follow the instructions on the screen to select and format a partition where you want to install Windows XP.
      6.Follow the instructions on the screen to complete Windows XP Setup.
