I JUST got this spyware or virus that even took over my desktop background. It says "Warning: Spyware threat has been detected on your PC. Your computer has several fatal errors due to spyware activity. It is strongly recommened to install an antispyware software to closs all security vulnerabilities. Antispyware software helps protect your PC against spyware and other security threats. CLICK HERE TO SCAN YOUR PC FOR SOFTWARE.."
And then it's a clickable link. But everytime I click on that link it brings me here: http://winsecuritysolutions.com/?aid=444.0
& then I looked up / researched these 2 "software" and BOTH of them are fake and just look as if it's a protector when it's the opposite. And also, the little icon in the toolbar with the yellow triangle and exclamation point in the middle tell me to download software to protect my computer from keyloggers, vulnerbility, etc. and when I click on it, it brings me to the same exact link above! Help please!

What you are experiencing is simply adware which scares you into believing that your PC is in virus trouble so as to download their product. Donwload Spybot Search & Destroy Anti Spyware version 152 free (do a search on Google) When you do make sure you update this spyware constantly

You have spyware obviously, and need to remove it. I take it you do not have an anti- spyware software downloaded onto your computer, and you have a windows? Well if that's the case then you can get a free trial, which well find many more than just your trojan horse you have.http://shop.ca.com/downloads/free_trial_software.aspx is the website, and just download the whole pack, or the spyware only, and run a full scan, then quarantine all selected items and your good to go =]
You should consider buying CA security center its the best and fastest there is, or just buy Road Runner, and it comes with it. (which road runner is the fastest in the world as well!)

Use some other software. Norton, AVG , Avast are free antivirus software. Ad-aware, Spybot, Ewido are free spyware removers. You can download free softwares at http://fixit.in/antivirus.html and http://fixit.in/spywareremover.html . You can also run a free registry scan using utilities from http://re7.info

This infection is called Smitfraud.
I got it tonight also and I tried:
Norton Internet Security/Antivirus 2008
AVG Free
Adaware 2007
Spyware Doctor
Spybot Search and Destroy
I tried all of those removal tools in regular Windows and in safe mode and they all failed.
I also ran Threatfire antivirus that detects virus like activity. I let Threatfire run for an hour and it detected the virus and quarantined it. It stopped the annoying little popups that were coming from the exclamation mark in the task bar. It also enabled me to reset my desktop to a picture of my choosing. It did not turn my task manager back on.
I did some more looking and I found a free Smitfraud removal tool. Click this link and use the numbered tasks in order. Just close out all the informational text windows that pop up and keep going through the numbered tasks. It turned my task manager back on. I believe that this tool would have defeated the virus without Threatfire's help.

You are infected with spyware if:
* You see too much pop-up advertisements.
* Your browser has toolbars that you haven't installed.
* Your homepage has changed (and you can't change it back).
* Other settings have changed without your permission.
* Your computer is slow.
To get rid of spyware and keep your computer clean you can use an antispyware or even more.
You can download a antispyware software. There are 10 good anti-spywares.
here is the reviews: http://topten-reviews.info/
You can download one and scan your system.
All are safe and can be trusted.

I had this exact problem. Tried everything listed so far with no success. Heres what did work. Put the computer into safe mode and us a program called SDFix. This did the job all by itself. Spybot, Adaware, Smithfraud, vundo, threatfire, etc. etc. no worky on this sucker. Use SDFix in safe mode. Once you've done this you'll have to reenable your task manager manually to get it working again. Good Luck as this thing was a nightmare.
