How to Kill a Trojan with Norton?

August 22nd, 2008 · 8 Comments

I have Norton antivirus security on my windows vista.

But it only works partially, because it is lacking some extra protection because my “free trial” or whatever expired.
I’m not paying to renew it, since I never bought it in the first place [it came with vista]
& I still have some antivirus protection on my computer.

However.
On a free trial of Norton scan (I downloaded a program that included this) , it said there was a Trojan horse virus.
But on the Norton that came with vista, it didn’t detect it, and therefore couldn’t kill it.

How do I track it down and kill it?
The free trial that came with the downloaded program said that it wouldn’t let me get rid of it with “free scan”

You should NEVER use your system if you don’t have up to date virus protection running, new viruses are coming out by the hour, if your protection isn’t constantly updating then it’s useless.

The good news is that you don’t need Norton, Norton sucks! Seriously, costs a fortune and doesn’t work most of the time.

Here’s a link to the best anti-virus program out there, and good news is that it’s totally free.

Uninstall the Norton and any other anti-virus program you have running.

Download and install the AVG Free (the download link is at the bottom of the page on the far left). Install it and it will protect you.

      http://free.avg.com/

Anti-virus programs are designed to block viruses, they are not designed to find and/or remove viruses that are already on your system.

You can download and run the following program, Windows Defender, in conjunction with the AVG program, you’ll have complete (and free) system protection:

      http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/defender/default.mspx

If neither of these programs find anything then don’t worry about it. If you notice issues with your system performance though, you’re going to want to do a complete system re-install in order to eradicate whatever virus you may have.

Norton trial versions that expire no longer update, meaning they only combat viruses that were around last time it updated.
This means that usually within 48 hours or so you are essentially naked in the wind. “Partial’ Norton works if the hackers are stupid enough to use viruses that are old and useless. Right now you’d probably be safer uninstalling it, at least then it can’t use up your system resources like the terrible resource-hog that it is.
Try paying for Trend Micro and Spysweeper. Or try downloading some free antivirus programs. (And don’t you dare make that ANOTHER question. The search bar. Use it.)

If your nortons subscription has expired then your computer is still open to all infections because norton will not be able to install updates, updates and scan work together to keep the computer safe from viruses. If norton detected a ‘Trojan’ then you can get rid of it by using this spyware program. (http://www.superantispyware.com) This is a very good spyware program and it does a very good job at getting rid of and protecting the computer from (spyware, malware, adware, trojan horses, and some computer worms) and it is Free . So click on the link to get started and after installing is finish run a scan right away ok. you will be happy that you did. Now as for as an antivirus program is concern, you really o need one as I explain above, and since you are not going to renew your subscription with nortons and you want be using it any more, you must ‘Uninstall” nortons before installing any other antivirus program because if you do not, they will be in conflict with each other and not work properly (but your computer will not let you install 2 anyway) And you can use a ‘Free’ antivirus program as they offer just as much protections as others, its just that the paid version does offer much more protections, but the free ones will work just as well. Here is a link to grisoft antivirus program (http://free.grisoft.com) this is AVG Antivirus program (the new version) So click on the link to get started if you decited to give this antivirus program a try. (look for the ‘Free’ version at the web-site)
