I take it you fell for it, and installed AntiVirus 2009 without you knowing it was a fake. But anyways, did you try going to the Control Panel and deleting it from there? If not, try that.

First never click anywhere except on the red x on the top right hand corner. Anywher else will start to lauch the virus. Second , load Avira Anti vir, Microsoft windows defender and SPAMfighter all are free to download and DO NOT come with any adware as some free downloads always do.

The best recourse to remove anykind of know infection, and its residual is to do a REFORMAT.
In lieu of that, copy the know infections on the notebook, save it on your desk top. Restart the computer in safe mode. When you’re in safe mode, go to your account, go to tools and folder and show all hidden files, Find the programs that are on your notebook, and delete it.
Another way of cleaning is to go to the temporary internet folder and delete everything in it. Go to temp files located in the Local Settings, and delete that. Delete all the cookies on your account and administrator account.
f y i most of the infections that you find are usually found in the windows system 32 folder.
Hint::::Learn how to do Killbox, you may need to use that program.
Did you run Spybot? What type of antivirus protections do you have?
If you do REFORMAT–SAVE ALL YOUR DOC, MUSIC AND PICS.
You will loose all !
Hope this information helps.
Good Luck

This sounds messy but try this.
I hope you have anti virus installed. Start your computer in Safe mode and run your anti virus program and hopefully it will find it. I suspect you were asked to download a codec file and that is when the provlems started. I would also recommend you download Zone Alarm as this is a great Firewall and program controller. While you are at it, download Ccleaner also. I highly recommend these two programs and trust them implicitly.

Download and scan with the the following free software in order one by one, delete what ever they find should leave your PC free of infections:
Malwarebytes: http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php
SuperAntispyware: http://www.download.com/SUPERAntiSpyware-Free-Edition/3000-8022_4-10523889.html?cdlPid=10850129
SmitfraudFix: http://siri.geekstogo.com/SmitfraudFix.exe
Avast Anti-Virus: http://www.download.com/Avast-Home-Edition/3000-2239_4-10019223.html?tag=pop.software&cdlPid=10867956
Once you have removed the infections keep Avast and download Comodo Pro firewall, then switch to Firefox 3 if you are browsing with IE this should stop it returning. (links on my profile)
