I recently opened what I believe to be a virus infected file and since then whenever windows starts up, numerous applicatons show the “failed to initialize properly, click to terminate application” error message, which always leads to the blue screen: Fatal system error, system has been shut down. This happens when booting in last known good configuration and all safes modes, which immediately shows yet another blue screen. Geek squad is unhelpful, merely saying get recovery discs to reformat. It’s a Sony vaio which of course comes sans recovery discs. I’ve ordered them from Sony but I’m afraid of what will happen if they don’t work. Any pointers for what to do next? Thanks!

You crashed… You have to reinstall Your OP, but I think you have to wipe the hard drive… Someone else may know…

If you find the error code on the blue screen you can then search the web.
It will be something like 0×00000CE.

if u can get the windows to work a while and open browser and surf then u can scan ur computer online
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
or
reinstalling should fix that problem, reformat and re install if u dont know how u can …and be careful opening emails ….only open those that u recognize.
install an anti virus program cos most have a active shield and they dont let most viruses get on ur computer or would catch them as they enter also i would recommend a fire wall and some sort of a spyware program
some free anti virus programs u can download are
AVAST and AVG u can search for them on yahoo or google
for spyware free options are
"Spybot search and distroy" and "adaware"
free firewall
Zome Alarm
