IF YOU GO TO THE MANUFACTURERS WEBSITE AND UPDATE THE DRIVER FOR THAT DEVICE IT SHOULD AUTOMATICALLY INSTALL AND OVER RIDE THE OLD DRIVER, TRY THAT FIRST OK.

go to windows vista A-Z

>add/remove programs
>add/remove windows components
of this doesnt resolve your question..
go to

ask him whatever you want. he's got an asnwer for sure.
actually..you dont have to uninstall the driver.
its a plug and play device meaning no installation is required to use it. you just have to remove it from your system. i mean it, romove the entire cdrom and boot our pc.
after, turn it off and plug the cdrom again and reboot.
see what it says…
ps.
you didnt tell us what caused the problem so i couldnt give you a specific answer..

As its a CD/DVD drive it wont need a driver, unless its usb and youre on windows 98 or below.
Make sure the master/slave setting is correct on the back of the drive and make sure the cable is properly connected and to the right connector on the cable -master on end, slave in middle.
check also that it shows up in the BIOS
