First, you don't really "install" a router on your computer. The CD is simply a program that you install which allows you to configure the router.
A router, once setup/configured is a stand alone device and doesn't even need a computer attached to operate! Routers all have internal computers to keep connections alive.
All that being said, you don't need the CD at all for any reason! The CD is to make it simpler for those who don't understand how a router works and don't want to find out!
To "uninstall" a router, you unplug it! That is all there is to the issue you don't need to "remove" anything from the computer.
Then connect the new router (use an ethernet cable don't try it wirelessly) - restart the computer and run the setup cd (if you have to), or just open a web browser go to http://192.168.1.1 (for linksys) enter the username and password for the router - those are in the "setup guide" and configure the router! NO CD has to be used!
–Edit–
Yes I know Linksys has a sticker that says, "RUN CD FIRST". Its only because they don't want the phone calls on how to setup a router without using the guides that are on the CD! If you check the manuals, and the install guides, you will find you don't need the CD to setup a router on ANY computer.
