i have just downloaded AVG 8.0 free.
However I can't update it, I right click it and then press update. Every time it says, "the connection with update server has failed"
Can anyone tell me why?

try lauching avg free control center and click update there. you may need to uninstall and reinstall it

The latest version is 8.0. You must have seen a fake download somewhere online and thought it was the actual version, but it may have been a beta also.

Sonico67 is right. There is no avg 8.5. Version 8 is the latest.

avg version 8.5 have been launched and cab be downloaded from download.com

guys , im facing the same problem . i recently downloaded avg 8.0 and after a restart it started updating and says “failed to connect ” i have downloaded 5 to 6 antivirus softwares and have run a scan each time installing one by one and they are not updating and the scan results come as “no infected keys located” and some other messages of that sort

If you donwload the updates manually and do an update from folder, the update works without any problems. No issues with the files only the update server. I am doing a scan now in safe mode to make sure there are no trojans/viruses blocking the update. So far I cannot detect anything with AVG and trojan remover.

I have AVG 8.5 and it updated fine for a little less than a month and now it can’t update because of a missing control file.

Be careful with the AVG 8.5 update pop-up! It is a fake (in my opinion). It downloads in Dutch and as soon as I installed it (yes I know, I’m an idiot) my computer got hammered by trojans and viruses. I got hit with Vundo and Newjuan and many of my programs won’t work correctly. I have fixed the issue now but I would recommend going right to AVG’s site and getting updates. Don’t trust AVG pop-up’s!!!
