I want to get rid of an online chess program that I have. I’ve tried getting rid of it by using the Add/Remove Programs program. It doesn’t work, and it gives me this message:
"Error 1721. There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personal or package vendor."
I’m not trying to install anything, so I don’t know why I’m getting this message. I’m trying to get rid of something, so this message should have nothing to do with what I’m doing. Can someone please help?

Windows messages are kind of funny like that. A lot of times, they don’t actually describe what’s going on, so they’re really not all that helpful to average users. This is a case just like that.
What’s really going on is that the registry entries for Add/Remove Programs are damaged or lost. Your registry is like a toolbox for your computer. If you don’t keep up with organizing, cleaning, and maintaining it, things get lost or broken. Luckily, maintaining your computer’s registry is easier even than maintaining your toolbox.
What you need is a registry maintenance program. You can get my favorite one here: http://optimize-your-pc.com/regcure/repairing_errors.php. After you download and install it, run it and everything should be right as rain. Use it once a month, and you’ll keep things that way.
