The computer in question is my desktop. It is relatively old. The original hard drive (C:) is only 9GB. Another 90GB drive (D:) was added several years ago. Yesterday afternoon, in an attempt to make room on my C drive (only about 118MB available), I went into my Add/Remove Programs to get rid of programs I no longer used or had on my laptop. Thinking my MO 2000 was another money/small business type program, I uninstalled it. After my word, excel and outlook icons went all goofy, I realized my unfortunate error. The thing is that I looked at my C drive to see how much free space had been created (one program was 300GB, the other about 500GB) virtually no free space had appeared! This leads me to believe that MO and all my documents and emails are still possibly on my PC but I don’t know where to access them.
This morning I searched for solutions and came upon the System Restore option. Tried it, didn’t work. The only restore date option available was for today. Now, I have my MO 2000 disks to reinstall, however, do not have the original packaging showing the product key. Is there a way to get around this? Or is there a way to retrieve my files if they are not completely gone? I also have MO Prof 2007 disks (my laptop software) with the product key. So I guess my questions are…
1) If MO 2000 is still somewhere on my computer, how can I get it back?
2) If MO 2000 is gone, how can I reinstall it w/o the product key? Can I install it on my larger D drive or possibly an external drive (500GB)? If MO 2000 is gone, does that mean all my documents and emails were wiped out along with it?
3) If I install MO 2007 onto my D or external drive (if possible), will it override any remaining MO 2000 program files on my C drive and/or retrieve any of my files?
Okay, I hope all this makes sense. My desktop is running on Windows XP if that makes a difference. Thank you thank you for reading this. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! I hope someone out there has some good news!

my first suggestion is to go to the previous restore point.
if that fails… reinstall O2K, it will ask to validate, since it cannot, you will get a toll free phone number to MSFT. Call them, they MAY be able to help with a key.
when you reinstall, you will not delete any doc files, only system/programs.
If you need a key, there is a web site serials.ws that has a bunch of cracked key codes. The place is one big virus, so use with caution. You can find a key that MSFT knows has been cracked, but it might get you past the valadation, and be able to get MSFT to valadate.
Since MSFT does not suppoer O2K any more, you may be out of luck anyway.

I had the same problem recently. This is what I did:
How to obtain a replacement product key
To replace a Microsoft product key, you must contact Microsoft Customer Service and Support. To locate the appropriate telephone number, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;EN-US;CNTACTMS
Note When you contact Microsoft Customer Service and Support for a replacement product key, you may have to pay a fee. You may also have to provide information from your computer or from the product CD or DVD when you are speaking to the customer service representative.
I didn’t have to pay a fee but I don’t know whether you will have to or not. Hope that helps.

1) I very much doubt Office 2000 is still on your computer. However, that doesn’t mean your documents aren’t still there somewhere (if you saved them properly). You just won’t be able to open them.
2) I strongly suggest not reinstalling Office 2000 - if you somehow find a legal way. Instead, you should take advantage of the free download Microsoft are offering of Office 2010 Beta: http://www.microsoft.com/office/2010/en/default.aspx It will be able to read the files which you had in Office 2000.
3) Don’t install 2007 either. Download 2010.

Lion64: do you have an actual reason against reinstalling an older version of Office or are you just one of those technofetishist morons who advocates the new version of everything no matter what it is? Please provide evidence for your answer.
