I'm going crazy with this. The computer is able to download updates and such, and when I ping another site, it confirms that the information was sent. I've run virus scans, mal/adware scans, did the winsock fix, and compared the settings on the malfunctioning computer with this one, which is working. Any help would be greatly appreciated, since I have to send this one out to Sony to be repaired, and can't go without a computer, as I am a student.
Oh, and I'm connected through a Linksys wireless router on both laptops. I've called Compaq, who made the computer with the connection issue, and they referred me to Comcast, my ISP, who told me to call Linksys, who said that the problem wasn't with the router, and that I should call Microsoft. I did, and they wanted to charge me $60 to help me. Jerks. Oh, and I'm running IE 7 and Windows xp Home Edition.
I have no idea what firewall I'm using…I assume just windows firewall. When I do the ipconfig, I get:
Connection-specific DNS suffix :hsd1.tn.comcast.net
IP Address: then some numbers
Subnet Mask: then some numbers
Default Gateway: Some more numbers

I would personally suggest uninstalling IE and stick with firefox, for downloading updates etc., the information is routed through specific ports, and therefore doesn't require the browser.
You'll probably find that IE is interfering with firefox.
Hope that helps, e-mail me if you need further assistance

What firewall are you using , and what and what anti virus software. Also , go to start. run , cmd , type in "ipconfig" without the quotes and send me the responce, this info might help.
