I had computer associates(CA) antivirus on my pc provided by sbc/att as part of my dsl bumdle. Then without any given notice-att/sbc dropped CA n switched to Norton . I had no idea that they were no longer using CA. I continued to update and run CA everyday. But since sbc dropped them CA was never really updating for me which means the virus protection was useless. It never warned me of any problems-it just finished the scans and said no viruses found! I took my pc into staples 2 have it checked b/c it was having all types of issues. They told me that there was no antivirus software found on my pc. but they did find tons of trojans, malware, etc. They said I need to wipe out everything. When I got home I went 2 sbc page online 2 check CA. Sbc prompted me 2 install Norton! I tried and it said "sorry-Norton will not be available until feb.15-which was still 2 wks away! so I waited 2 wks, tried again only 2 be told I dont have enough memory 4 norton install. Thanks sbc.So how do i fix

You can use a free antivirus and antispyware application. They are very good and a lot less bloated than Norton or CA stuff.

krs10, it looks like you might have a smitfruad infection. symptoms to check for are
is there a flashing red x near your system clock, it could be a flashing exclamation mark too…
are you getting pop-ups stating that your computer is infected and you can purchase so and so anti-virus or anti-spyware?
if that is the case then go on and download smitfraudfix from http://siri.geekstogo.com/SmitfraudFix.php and follow the instructions on the site.
you will be able to run the tool in normal mode too and it should also remove the infection.
once you have removed the infection go ahead and clear all temp files
go to start-run type "temp" delete all files
go to start-run type "%temp%" delete all files
clear browser cache
clear restore points by right clicking on my computer - system restore.. check the box which says stop monitoring all drives. click apply and once it has removed the restore points uncheck it again and apply.
you need to do that so that you don't get the infection back again from temp or system restore.
good luck
if you face any problem message me.

Hi, both CA and Nortons would be my less preferential AV to protect my pc. I would recommend Kaspersky Internet Security version 7 or Trend Micro PC illin (2008). I used to have Norton's Internet Security but it also never found any virus, only two spyware on my PC. You should use PC tools Spyware Doctor, as it scans and tells me I have literally hundreds of infections, though my previous antivirus programs could find only a few. Remember that most major antivirus companies have good antivirus programs but are not specialists in finding spyware or adware. You have to get other tools eg.Spyware Doctor. I also use Adware and Spybot but I think there are better ones out there. You can buy Kaspersky online or in retail stores. McAffee is probably too slow for your PC. Kaspersky is quite efficient in running a scan and has less overheads. A lot of people complain about Norton being a system hog, see forums.
