The icons and stuff dont come up because its not installed on your external. The files are there, but not installed. Go to my computer and open your external drive. Find the files in there and select the sims 2 and push delete.

Can you access your external hard drive from my computer? Try doing 'find' in the drive through my computer… it might have a current shortcut, and if not you can just press delete on the folder and do it that way.
