I suspect I got a computer virus. The computer slowed down, firewall got turned off somehow, and the font changed in my web browser.
To check for virus I installed old McAfee (about 3 year old version) and current Lavasoft AdAware (but with old definitions file from 2005) anti-virus software and tried to update them. I also tried to download the latest security update from Microsoft. I am connected to the internet and can browse it, but all updates failed - when I clicked "Update" buttons the updates did not go through. I cannot even access McAfee web site (the site does not come up), even though I can access Google and Yahoo. I also cannot access MS update web site, although I can access main MS site.
I suspect that the virus is blocking my access to anti-virus web sites.
How can I fix all that?
Thank you very much!

Run the quick scan with malwarebytes anti-malware then reboot and run the full scan and reboot again.
Uninstall McAfee and look for a replacement, you'll need to use the removal tool and there's a link to it in my profile. I'd recommend as a replacement Avast Home Edition for free http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html or NOD32 if you don't mind paying http://www.eset.com/
Some software that I'd recommend you running weekly are:-
malwarebytes anti-malware http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php
SUPERantispyware http://www.superantispyware.com/download.html
Spybot Search and Destroy http://www.safer-networking.org/index2.html
Select the free versions if applicable.
I'd also recommend you run ccleaner http://ccleaner.com every day to clear your "crap" It has 2 scans, cleaner and registry, remove or fix all that it finds but repeat the registry one until nothing is detected.
Please ensure that you check for updates before running these tools.
After a malware attack and clean It's always a good idea to switch off System Restore, reboot, switch it back on, create a new restore point then reboot again.
Hope this helps, email me if you need to and I'll pass some to you over Instant Messenger, I've done this in the past when websites were blocked.
NB: Tip - If you find that you are unable to run a program eg: mbam-setup.exe try changing it to something random like 5488gdhrf.exe and try again.

You have a nasty virus that doesn't let you browse any anti-virus/spyware sites, to remove the virus download MBAM [Malwarebytes Anti-Malware]
Download[Free to use with no trial]: http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php
DO a full scan and remove all the malware/viruses found and you should be back to normal.

If you try Safe Mode with networking, you might then be able to update them.
Use SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes as well.
