Can ANYONE help? I can’t even figure out what the issue is - i’ve looked all over the internet and can’t find anything that helps.
My desktop’s ability to connect to the internet stopped after uninstalling a trial of Norton 2009.
It’s NOT the modem because I can connect fine when I plug the network cable into my laptop’s card. Hence how I’m writing this.
Here’s what I did:
1) Uninstalled Norton 2009 thru Revo Uninstaller (which uses the Norton uninstaller than apparently erases all other traces)
2) Left my network cable unplugged to install Zone Alarm 7 (the version that came out before the Microsoft Update that included a security update that made ZoneAlarm block all internet connections). Plugged the network cable back in, no connection.
3) Updated ZoneAlarm to the version made that “fixed” the MS update issue
4) Still no internet connection. Uninstalled and wiped out all traces of ZA (apparently) according to instructions on the internet.
5) Installed ZoneAlarm 8. Still no connection. Uninstalled ZoneAlarm 8
6) Removed registry keys for the above programs, at least any I could find
7) Installed the most recent Kaspersky security suite.
Still no internet connection on my desktop
I’m totally stumped and can’t figure out what to do…
I have removed all "security" programs, still can't connect.
I never use Windows firewall, so it has never been on.
My card says its working, the driver is fine.
Also, I ping www.yahoo.com it says i need to check the name and try again

Just a few thoughts: Check to see if Windows Firewall was turned back on. If so, turn it off for a moment and try the Internet. Not a solution, but maybe a clue.
Also, do a Start->Run-> cmd and try to ping http://www.yahoo.com.
Make sure there’s still a connection defined for your NIC.
Good luck.

I would go with turning the firewall off and trying to connect. Also make sure that your driver for the internet didn’t get deleted. You will have to reinstall it through the windows software.
