right
AVG is an ok'ish anti virus program but a bastard to remove
use this software it WILL get rid of the program
http://www.revouninstaller.com
tips for use:
download, install and then launch revo uninstaller its free so no need to get the plastic out
revo will then populate with all programs installed like windows uninstaller does, locate AVG and then select to uninstall the program
on the next screen select advanced mode this is a tiny bit more slower but will get rid of everything associated with the program
first of all revo will create a restore point just in case, then it will scan the program so that it knows what is to be removed
then the normal uninstaller that came with the program will run, if the this uninstaller (and not revo) fails or spits it dummy out at all then simply cancel the uninstaller (but not revo) then go back to revo and click on next on revos progression screen, revo will then scan for all files and registry entries left by the program and then give you the option to delete them (press select all and then delete them)
then after you have done you should be rid of the program you wanted to uninstall
if you need more help of any sort email me on my profile, i will help with pleasure

Relax, there's a fix. This IS a problem with Kaspersky and messing around with Add/Remove Programs or regedit doesn't work. Here's a simple way to do it:
http://www.mydigitallife.info/2008/06/07/skip-and-bypass-kaspersky-anti-virus-or-internet-security-incompatible-software-scan-during-installation/
If you can't find the files mentioned, simply go to Start–> Search and type Kaspersky in the box.
It's quite simple, really.

Try the AVG Removal Tool:
http://www.avg.com/download-tools
Did you have both Avast and AVG installed at the same time?? Never install two AV's at the same time. This will most probably leave your computer less secure, rather than more secure. ONE anti-virus, ONE firewall and ONE anti-spyware.

Eddie 198 had the right idee by giving you the best free uninstaller
Revo Uninstaller. I will not give you the link again, because I will not try to undermine Eddie.
I did answer your question, because I would suggest this.
Reinstall AVG completely and then uninstall it using Revo Uninstaller.
At least it will be a program in Revo then you can uninstall
Revo Uninstaller also deletes all registry entries while uninstalling the program. Fantastic free program
