This is the second time I've had problems with Norton… First time I had to wipe the hard drive and re-install everything which was a great pain. Now, it messed up again! I can't uninstall it the correct way, because it tells me that there is an error and I have to delete the files manually. So, I go into Program Files and try to delete the programs manually and it says "Restricted Access". I really want this thing off because error messages from Live Update pop up on my desktop every few minutes and it's really bugging me. We called the Norton Support line, (which costs $3.95 per minute!!!) and they said it was a problem with our operating system. I'm running on Windows XP Pro which has no problems. PLEASE HELP ME OUT!!! I really don't wanna wipe my hardrive AGAIN!!!!
I got it from the att yahoo website for free. I don't have a disk or product key.
I can't even open Norton to use the program removal!

You'll get that "restricted access" stuff trying to delete those files, because a part of the program is running when you start your computer. Norton makes different removal tools that you can download from their site (depends on what version you're running). The removal tool is a stand-alone app that shuts down and deletes norton-related files. You download it from symantec.com, and then you run it. I've had good luck with the removal tools in the past.

After you get it straight, go to free.grisoft.com and download free AVG.

Hi,
That sucks.
and I found out that the OverKill perk on COD4 allows you to hold two primary weapons instead of one primary and a pistol.

Yeh microsoft fixed thier OS to keep software companys from sticking the consumers with crap software like norton and what happens they get sued over it and lose so you get to look forward to more of bullshit software from Symantec. When I work on a PC that has any Symantec software on it, I tell them to take it home save anything they wanna keep and bring it back when they are ready to format it. Bad as a virus have to use another program to remove it. ………… how lame

Hi
Bought a HP laptop just a over a month back. It came with Windows Vista Home premium and Norton Security, for 60 days.
After just 30 days my system was infected. After unable to repair/remove infection had to use the HP Restore. Once restored, I removed Norton and installed AVG Free. Have used AVG for nearly two years on other system, no problems with it.
Norton used to be a good AV software, but now it is more of a crapware. I stopped using Norton well over a year ago. Will never use it again, and would recommend people having problem with Norton to uninstall and find alternative like AVG.

I had to do a total system recovery about a month ago and I could not get Norton uninstalled but it was still there when I got it up and running again. These idiots at Norton don’t give a GD about their product or customers. I emailed them 2 weeks ago about not showing that I renewed for another year (oy vey-I’ll never do that again!) If you are thinking about buying Norton-don’t-the IT person where I work says McAfee is sufficient, cheaper and less complicated.
