I upgraded to vista and i have the old windows media player. I am trying to download windows media player 11 but it wont let me because i have a recent version. Ive already tried to uninstall it but it does not show up on the list of programs? What could i do?

Vista sucks.. if you where using XP i'd say
Pop in the cd and remove it
WMP is a program that gets install when you install the cd

You'll need to run the built-in updater in Media Player itself.
When You d the chec for updates it will find a newer version of the core program available and get it for You.

Don't bother–Windows Media Player is crappy and deliberately limited. I install three free media-player packages to replace it–they ALL work MUCH better than WiMP. See my article:

If you REALLY want to remove WiMP (not necessary if you install the others), a useful utility called "XP-antiSpy" has a setting that allows it. XP-antiSpy also improves your privacy and reduces software overhead (it's a new version, too):
