Your browser might be hijacked.
Update your anti-virus
http://free.grisoft.com/ [If you do not have one]
Restart your PC in safe mode
http://www.pchell.com/support/safemode.shtml
And run a full scan with both your anti-virus and anti-spyware.
You may also want to have a look at your start up items by using msconfig.
http://www.netsquirrel.com/msconfig/
Be careful with the items you uncheck, you can have a look here to see if they are necessary

Also check your Add-ons for your browser.

Download Adaware (http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-2007/3000-8022_4-10045910.html ) Get the updates for it and your antivirus. Turn off System Restore (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310405 )Restart in safe mode (http://www.pchell.com/support/safemode.shtml ) run both scans as FULL SYSTEM SCANS and delete what you find.
You can also do the same for Spybot – Search and Destroy (http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html )
Also make sure your alert is coming from your antivirus, and not from Internet Explorer or a program called Virus Cleaner. If it is, then that definately adware, but it might be hidden by a rootkit. If so, there is a lot more you have to do.
