I get the blue screen when i'm trying to repair my windows XP??!!?

ok so i boot from the windows xp installation cd to repair my windows and the blue screen of death appears!!! please help me out here i was already having problems getting connected to the internet before and the system repair was the only thing i could think of doing. also i've just recently gotten a new harddrive which can't be detected by my computer. Maybe that had something to do with the blue screen??????
