It came with a slip of paper that said make sure you update the virusw definitions. When I try that I get "live update could not retrieve the catalogue file of symantic product updates." It says to make sure my internet connection is funtioning properly and try again. Obviously my internet service is working. By not being able to update the virus definitions, does this mean I don't have antivirus right now?

yes you do have it it just isn't up to date. which doesn't matter the minute the subscription to norton ends cancel it because norton and mcafee both suck the free version of avg is better than norton.

Don't even wait…get rid of the Norton now. It's crap.
Try avast 4.8 Free Home Edition. I have a link and two videos of it in action on my profile here, check 'em out.
If you do install it, be sure and register it at the site: avast.com Go to support, scroll down to "FREE register avast" and follow the instructions. It'll be good for a year and you can re-register a year later.
