download adaware by lavasoft (google it) - that'll get rid of spyware and cookies. Then download AVG (google it), that'll get rid of viruses.
Both of those programs are free.

Download Spybot-search and destroy. That should help.
Also Ad-aware. (free versions)
And also AVG as mentioned above

First, what program gave you this message? Was it a pop-up with a yellow triangle with a black exclamation mark inside it? If so, don't do anything. This is an add. If it was from an anti-virus software that you have already installed on your computer, that program will have a way to remove the spyware. What program, if any, do you use? I will edit my comment after more information.

See if the dialogue box is actually a link, you can do this by moving your mouse over the box but not clicking. If the pointer turns into a hand, it's a link and probably will take you to a site that actually has malicious software. I've seen this one a couple of times.
Use google and find a website to download a virus scanner and spyware remover.

Probably the report button virus. If that's what it is (and it certainly sounds like it) then you might be screwed. It's nearly impossible to get rid of from what I've heard (I'm happy I never hit the report button here on answers).

You have a Trojan which is trying to persuade you to purchase a rogue antispyware program. You are right not to purchase the spyware program as this is the whole reason behind the Trojan - to get your money.
Also DO NOT download SpywareRemover as recommended by the previous poster as this is also a rogue antispyware program and will throw up a load of false positives in the hope that you will buy their program.
Instead, visit CastleCops (see the link below) and follow their comprehensive Malware Removal and Prevention instructions. This involves running a cleaning program, a couple of antispyware scanners, an online antiviral scan and an antiTrojan scan. If the problem still persists then run HijackThis and post the details to their forums. This will enable them to analyse what is running on your computer and what should be removed.
Hope this helps.
