Ensure that your screen resolution is set correctly within the display settings on your computer. If the resoluton is set to one which your flat panel monitor does not support, this may cause the monitor to present an error message such as the one you have experienced.
To change your screen resolution in windows XP, right-click on your desktop and select “properties”. From there, select the “Settings” tab and then check the setting for screen resolution. To find which screen resolutions your monitor supports, check the manufacturers website or the box/manual. To be safe, a screen resolution of 1024×768 should work without a problem. If this resolution works you can then experiment and turn up the resolution until you are happy with the result. Don’t worry if your screen turns off again due to setting a bad resolution - simply wait 30 secs and your resolution should revert back.
I hope this helps.
