Inspiron 1525 and a lexmark x1290 AIO printer. Can not get the AIO center to fax, scan. Will print and copy. Is there anything I can do to fix this? If not , which printer is the best for vista?
I have e mailed Microsoft, no answer as yet.
I did not know Vista and lexmark were incompatible. On Microsofts website it states they are compatible. I am an on line student and cant afford to buy another printer.

Go on the Lexmark site, and download Vista drivers for the printer. Make sure you also get the fax and scanner section drivers, too, because these count as separate machines as far as Windows is concerned. Check your Help pages that other “services” needed for scanning are all enabled.
If you can’t get the right drivers, it is not costly to buy a new printer/scanner.
Large computer and electronics stores often have good bargains on printers. Some of them are very cheap (under $100) especially if they are “Vista only” or “Windows only”.
You can do with a cheaper all-in-one that does not include faxing, as you can always fax through the computer, with a simple and free faxing program.
The only feature it is worth paying a little more for is, one with separate ink tanks for the various colours, if you are going to be doing a lot of colour work. If mostly doing assignments, this does not matter much, but make sure you have it set to print black and white. This way it will use the black cartridge only and not try to mix the black from the colour tanks.
