Why did you keep reinstalling it?
When you reinstall, it asks which version you’d like to install, you must have selected Home Basic.
Guess what? You get to reinstall…again!

everybody has a problem with vista, the system sucks, go complain to windows and try to get it replaced with a different system.
my vista one time went “zzzzt!” and started smoking
that’s how much it sucks.
best of luck with your problem!

Your Windows didn’t turn into Home Basic. What happened was that Microsoft only allows a certain number of re-installs before the software goes into “limited functionality”. You need to call them and explain what happened so they can “unlock” the software for you. They are usually very good about this and don’t ask too many questions.

Have you got your copy of Vista registered. It automatically checks this when you are online. You can check this in settings.
You can play games in Vista basic with some limitations in experience.
