My mother in law gave me computer, after transferring info to her labtop. She has defragmented, and set a restore date,I think. Computer is Dell 2.66ghz cpu and only 128 ram. It was still slow when I got it, but thinking it was an earlier issue that has made it slow. She has had a lot of crap programs on this computer. But what concerns me is, I downloaded limewire. After downloading, it automatically started downloading prior files that must us been downloaded through limewire on this computer. Needless to say, her ex or her have downloaded pornographic clips. I deleted from Limewire but not sure what else I can do. This computer is slow with anything but some IT guys at her work told her to restore. What is the best option for me, with starting over with Windows or deleting all this crap. I am computer literate but need detailed instructions if anyone can help me. Please! It’s connected through wireless, but not sure if I can wipe it out or what not. If wiping out is the option, I will need instructions on that as well, please. Thanks guys and gals for any help you can give me.

Best site to go to is: finallyfast.com
It scans for spyware, junk files, and helps to speed up the computer.
After that delete old cookies but not the index (you’ll see it in the file, open the cookies file and delete EVERYTHING except the index.)
Defragment the hard drive.

Nada R is right-But I would clean install your Windows. In the process format your hard drive. After that install all drivers and programs you want.
I would also upgrade RAM to at least 1GB.128 is not enough to run XP.

Using a registry cleaner can clean up your computer and then make your computer faster,Why?the reason is that there may be some registry errors and remnant, corrupt files and temp files in your computer to cause “computer slow”.
Every time you install and uninstall software on your computer and surfing online you create junk in the computer registry.over time, the registry can grow to enormous proportions, especially if the various programs you’ve installed do not do a good job of deleting and/or updating it’s Registry entries. You need to scan and clean your computer with registry cleaner to make it fast.Good Registry Cleaner will improve your computer and Internet performance dramatically!
There are some comparison and review of TOP 5 registry cleaners.

I can sense your frustration. I have had the same problem in the past.
Some uninstallers for Windows software do not completely remove all traces of the software from the registry. It is possible that these traces may interfere with performance or have other negative impacts. Using a registry cleaner is a way to get rid of these bits. The registry cleaner scans the registry, and picks out the unnecessary and/or damaged pieces and deletes/repairs them.
There are many registry cleaners on the market today… you can look at some reviews of the top selling products here… http://registrycleanupsoftware.com/reviews.html
One of these products solved my problem.
There is also a terrific book called “The PC Secret Formula”. It is very comprehensive and will guide you thru a step by step process of optimizing and securing your PC. This resource is really top notch. I had to dig around to find the link to it but I finally found it… http://askfirstmarketing.com/evaluates/PCSecretFormula
Hope this helps
