i have 'avast!' anti-virus on my computer, and it says i have no viruses..?

April 3rd, 2008 · 7 Comments

but my internet is slow some of the time, but fast other times. Every once in a while, when my computer is being slow, this XP antivirus pops up and shows 3 things that are "infecting my computer". But my regular anti-virus still says i have no infected files, no matter how often i scan for viruses. Im not very good with computers, so what do you all think? Do i have a virus??

Your computer could infected with Spyware - Trojan, so try to scan your computer with any free trojan removal software e.g Ad-aware 2007, Yahoo Anti-Spy. Good Luck cheers

More information would be needed to answer this but I suspect you have a trojan or worm on your computer from malware/spyware.Most antivirus programs will pick up these infected files but most cannot remove them as a trojan or a worm is not an actual virus.

I suggest trying these programs to help you further:
Spybot search and destroy 1.5 from Safernetworking[free download]
      Adaware from lavasoft[free download]
There are many more programs to try buy or download for free at places like tucows, majorgeeks,or cnet etc…

I hope this can be of some help to you and good luck

Use some other software. Norton, AVG , Avast are free antivirus software. Ad-aware, Ewido are free spyware removers. You can download free softwares at http://fixit.in/antivirus.html and http://fixit.in/spywareremover.html . You can also run a free registry scan using utilities from http://re7.info

That XP Antivirus is a fake. It is malware itself. It is trying to scam you:
"XP Antivirus 2008 is a rogue antivirus utility that uses false positives to lure the user into buying the product."
      http://www.malwarebytes.org/roguenet.php?id=421

Your computer is badly infected. Probably a smitfraud infection.

The removal tool called RogueRemover Free specialises in this sort of malware
      http://www.malwarebytes.org/rogueremover.php
Use the free version. There is absolutely no reason to use the paid, "Pro" version when you want to remove only.

After running RogueRemover, to clean-up any remaining infection traces, scan for trojans,
and spyware etc and remove (free online scan, no downloaded program) with Ewido Online Scanner ( now known as AVG Anti-Spyware). This is NOT the same as AVG Anti-Virus. Press "Scan your computer now online and clean it for free!" on the left.
      http://www.ewido.net/en/

      Good luck.

It look like to me that you have 2 antivirus programs loaded on your computer, you can Not have 2 because two will cause conflict with each other and wont work right. So make sure that if you do have 2 installed to Un-install one of them first. Do you have a spyware program installed? If not here is a link to a very good program that I highly recomend and so do others here .(http://www.superantispyware.com) and it is Free, you need to run a scan once you download this program ok

I have AVAST but also get

Threatfire (threatfire.com ) — this will catch trojans when they act up, even new ones.

What are you using for a firewall? The built-in XP firewall stinks (see Matousec firewall ratings where it got a zero). I'd get Comodo FIREWALL ONLY and set the alerts to VERY LOW.

But, meanwhile, you need to clean up so get the free Spyware Doctor from pack.google.com — Spybot is no longer up to snuff (recent tests found it got only 2% of spyware on computers!).

Using a registry cleaner can clean up your computer and then make your computer faster,Why?the reason is that there may be some regsitry errors and remnant, corrupt files and temp files in your computer to cause "computer slow".
Everytime you install and uninstall software on your computer and surfing online you create junk in the computer registry.over time, the registry can grow to enormous proportions, especially if the various programs you've installed do not do a good job of deleting and/or updating it's Registry entries. You need to scan and clean your computer with registry cleaner to make it fast.Good Regisry Cleaner will improve your computer and Internet performance dramatically!
There are some comparison and review of TOP 5 registry cleaners.
      http://www.make-pc-fast.info/
You can download and scan your computer for free.
