Ad-aware looks pretty good, but do I need it? Will it detect a lot of stuff avast! will miss? Avast does have antispyware and antirootkit now, but will Ad-aware or spybot S&D be necessary?
Also, which one (Ad-aware or spybot S&D) is best? Ad-aware seems the better choice, but I'm not 100% sure of any of this right now.

None of them are perfect.
The more the better (although with those 3, you should be fine)!

I have all 3.

More than 1 antispyware/adware wouldn't hurt.
Sure, get spybot.
Ad-Aware actually sucks. It only picks up MRU objects and Tracking Cookies for me. Spybot S&D and even Windows Defender picks up more malicious stuff.
I suggest getting them. Getting Ad-Aware wouldnt hurt though.
I strongly recommend Spybot though.

Yup. Avast does not spot malware or spyware. Spybot is not the best and have heard bad stories. Try CNET for the best voted programs.

I use Avast too, It's a great program. I still use an antispyware program. Avast still won't pick up a lot of spyware. As for which is better, you could use both of them. If you can afford to spend 20 to 25 bucks, I recommend Spysweeper from Webroot. It's a great anti-spyware program.

I believe one or the other is sufficient. Malware/viruses/spyware/etc come in many different forms. Avast! only protects against viruses and some forms of malware. I would say any one of those programs, or even try Threatfire ( http://www.threatfire.com ) may be just as good.

The best right now is Microsoft Live OneCare. Go to the website to do the FREE online scan.

Do NOT get more than one Anti-Virus program! It damages your computer!
Instead, get CCleaner. It cleans out all the crap from your computer. This is not an anti-virus; however, it is awesome.
http://www.ccleaner.com! Its free!
