I have just renewed my Webroot Spy Sweeper and my Trend Micro Anti-virus, now my internet loading slower. Why?

I also can not open any new tabs when I’m already on one screen. I click a link and my computer freezes and this was not happening before I renewed everything. Can someone help me. My Firewall on my Laptop is on. I have Vista and a Gateway Laptop with Comcast DSL. The renewed items both say that they are working find.
