i have problem with hp backup system. can’t open backup cause i did it in fat32 hdd…?

Hi there. I had a problem with my hp laptop. I saved my data with hp backup manager into my external hdd and then i did format to the laptop. but when i tried to extract the backup it didn’t work. i put the first disk, it asks me the last one and nothing happens. i contacted hp and they told me the problem was caused because the external was in FAT32 format and maybe the backup manager backed up … nothing!!!! is there any way to extract the data from the backup? maybe something was saved… there are 10 dvds with an .exe in them. if there is someone who knows you could trully save me because i lost data that i cannot find again… =(
