I have the latest version of McAfee, do I have to delete my old out dated one?

I have the latest version of McAfee but when I installed it onto my computer it says that I still need to update it. Do I have to delete the trial version on my computer then reinstall the new version or can I install the new version that will rid over the old one? THANKS!
